Overall Job Purpose: Provide support and Expert advice to the Group for all SAP systems related incidents, enhancements and projects for the relevant area of expertise within the SAP solution.

Key Accountability: 
Operational:

  • Maintenance and Production Support Outputs to deliver this accountability:
  • Initiates CBI (Continuous Business Improvement) projects; tracking and ensuring benefits realization Interacts with SAP organization as appropriate to deploy the requisite expertise to address specific client needs in a timely and efficient manner and ensures client access to the best available resources within SAP.
  • Informs organization of client needs and trends in the marketplace and alerts them to potential long-term opportunities
  • Analyses trends in the industry and makes recommendations
  • Conducts TCO and ROI studies
  • Conducts benefit tracking exercises Ensures optimal use of SAP to maximize benefits for customers, and ensure operation and support of SAP is optimal
  • Adheres to the production support processes, methodology and standards in order to ensure that the quality and integrity of the system is maintained
  • Key client contact and will exercise authority appropriate to particular client requests commensurate with client expectations of decision-making and consistent with policies and practices.
  • Endeavour to resolve reported problems within the agreed SLA's, using available resources (e.g. SAP's Knowledge Management and Call Logging System) and record regular updates on the official problem reporting system (e.g. ServiceNow)
  • Escalate unresolved problems to SAP System Manager.
  • Tests problem resolution deliverables properly before implementation into the SAP production system Updates the SAP system documentation

  • Works on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provides industry specific solutions and best practices knowledge to clients
  • Develops a solution framework and an implementation plan for industry specific projects or projects using new dimension products.
  • Ensures solutions are delivered on time and are of the highest quality.
  • Conducts strategic level workshops with clients to drive a SAP solution for acceptance and implementation Involved along with the Project Manager in drafting the project plan (scope, deliverables, timelines and resources), identifying and recruiting team members, and preparing and assisting in the preparation of individual work plans.
  • For assigned area, oversees all project activities leading to the implementation of the requirements.
  • Contributes to consulting projects by analysing clients business processes and SAP solution design.
  • Moves logically and creatively from facts to conclusions
  • Leads the execution of assigned project tasks in areas of demonstrated competence. This includes facilitating meetings/task groups, tracking and influencing task group progress, tracking project deliverables, etc.
  • Adhere to the Group SAP project methodology as well as to the Group Problem and Change Management processes and procedures in order to ensure that the quality and integrity of the system is maintained.
  • Provide SAP functional expert knowledge to business and rest of project team by conducting regular refresher training, where necessary, or workshops to discuss any new functionality available in the system.
  • Understands business requirements and assists in selling additional business.
  • Works closely with Business Engagement team to create and define new opportunities and ensures that the clients overall business objectives and needs are translated into well-defined and justified projects. This includes preparing work plans and contributing to proposals that describe the process used to meet the client’s needs and include deliverables, timelines and estimates of the costs and resources required.
  • Compile the business blueprint for solution, design and implementation using as the BRD (Business Requirements Document), outcomes of workshops and ASAP methodology templates.
  • Compile functional specifications using the BRD, outcomes of workshops and ASAP methodology templates where programs need to be changed or written
  • Configure the system as per the business blueprint
  • Compile test cases, test scenarios and test data Perform unit testing and system testing for solution using the test cases developed above Assist the business owners with user acceptance testing (UAT) and obtain UAT sign off from business
  • Complete all relevant system documentation and obtain relevant signoffs from business.

  • Conducts strategic level workshops with clients to drive a SAP solution for acceptance and implementation
  • Meet regularly with relevant business units to ensure optimum delivery, maintenance, support of the SAP solution and customer satisfaction
  • Provide SAP functional expert knowledge to business and rest of project team by conducting regular refresher training, where necessary, or workshops to discuss any new functionality available in the system
  • Understand and where applicable apply or implement the circulars/bulletins received from the Group communications channels to ensure adherence of procedures or policy.

  • Provides meaningful feedback to consultants to the overall performance evaluation of project team members.
  • Conduct research using available SAP resources such as OSS (Online Service System), SDN (SAP Developer
  • Network) and SAP Expert Journal, with respect to the relevant SAP modules and solutions Interacts with SAP organization, professional bodies (e.g. Africa SAP User Forum, Gartner, SAPHILA, etc.) and peers, as appropriate, to keep abreast of technology developments and business trends relevant to the product
  • Continually develop SAP core skills and business knowledge in addition to accumulated experience.
  • Acquire additional SAP skills in cross-functional areas and enabling technologies
  • Apply knowledge gained from each project experience to execute future tasks for projects.
  • Perform all other duties as reasonably assigned.

Role / Person Specification Education and Experience Required:

  • NQF Level 5: 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree in Information Technology Certified in at least one, with proven track record in more than two of the following SAP Areas:
  • FI, CO, RE/FX, MM, SRM, MDM, PS, GRC, BW, BO, ABAP, Xi, Basis, Solution Manager Certified in the ASAP methodology At least 6 years of functional / Technical / IT skills At least 6 years of Business Skills, and known as an authority in area of expertise At least 4 completed SAP projects
  • At least 4 years SAP support experience, including large projects.
