Group Debtors Manager
Location:  Sandton
Salary:  Market related dependent upon experience + Medical Aid + Pension

Purpose of the Role

Responsible for the collection/recovery of a certain percentage of the book within pre-set targets. Directs and coordinates the activities of a team of credit collection officers engaged in conducting credit investigations and collecting delinquent accounts of customers. Audits delinquent accounts considered to be uncollectible to ensure maximum efforts have been taken before assigning bad debt status to account. Submits delinquent accounts to attorney or outside agency for collection


Responsibilities:

Management

  •  Manage performance against budget / targets;

  •  Budgeting forecasting for the collection’s division;

  • Maintaining and managing strict adherence to Company and Financier Collections policy

  • Consistently improve strategies and ensure the debtors department work within the framework of legislation;

  • Ensure department is appropriately staffed in terms of numbers and quality of staffed (BBBEE);

  • Manage and control the training for the department;

  • Ensuring that the credit collection officers adhere to the objective and standard operating procedures;

  • Manage Audits and funder interface;

  • Management of debit orders;

  • Approval of refunds, credit notes, write offs, hand back and legal handovers;


Administration

  • Retaining accurate record of all correspondence undertaken with the client / finance house / attorneys;

  • Follow up with finance houses regarding the collection of equipment and promoting the purchase thereof through the dealerships;

  • Achieve the best possible price on repossessed equipment;

  • Assisting in the potential recovery of possible write offs of monies not recovered from the finance houses;

  • Work closely with legal department;

  • Attend to client and dealership queries as and where required through telephonic and email correspondence;

  • Assist with the collection process of the Evergreen portfolio as and when required;

  • Daily control and monitoring of diarised issues and timeous action thereof;

  • To ensure that all correspondence with customers are recorded both on paper and on the Acquire system;

  • Early detection, management and escalation of risk to mitigate and / or minimise potential losses;

  • Analysis of deals to be handed back to the finance house and authorisation of hand back;

  • Assist with the last attempt to make contact with the potential hand back to establish the necessity of handing the deal back to the finance house where necessary;

  • Monitoring the refunds due from the finance houses on deals handed back;

  • To ensure that, during the handover process, record of correspondence be available.

  • Professional written and telephonic contact with customers and attorneys;

  • Liaison with the dealer network to assist in the recovery process;

  • Assisting the relevant Finance House with repossession of equipment;

  • Ensure that all customer, attorney and finance house queries are answered effectively;

  • Manage weekly collections team meetings


Reporting

  • Timeous generation of monthly collection reports for Exco;

  • Participation in monthly Exco meeting and to report on Finance debtors;

  • Weekly debtors reporting;

  • Daily, weekly and monthly funder reporting.


Self-development

  • Ensure that basic legal, credit and risk process knowledge is kept up-to-date through self-study / reading related articles.


Requirements:

  • Related Degree / Diploma qualification;

  • Minimum of 10 years management experience gained in a credit and collections environment;

  • 3 years people management.
